I am an Eritrean refugee in the UK, completed an MA in Migration and Diaspora Studies at SOAS University of London, and now studying a PhD program at the University of Glasgow. I, in my career, engaged extensively with refugees and asylum seekers at various positions ranging from community facilitation to casework and community organising in Sudan, in Egypt, and in the UK. Being a refugee for the last nine years and having a first-hand experience of human trafficking, I have a research interest in refugee trafficking (which I wrote my MA dissertation on) and life-long researching interest in the ambivalent position of ‘the refugee’ as an ‘unprotected’ figure (my PhD project).
